The MAFRINANAH Collection began with the aim to explore one’s individualism and cultural identity. Mafricanah is a play on the worlds Muslim, Africa and Americanah (influenced by the novel ‘Americanah’ by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie). I wanted to learn more about my own identity as a Nigerian muslim individual, focusing specifically on the experiences  of a Northern Nigerian (Er Arewa). Having both western and Arabian influence, the Arewa society made for an interesting subject to explore our cultural hybridity.
